Ferney Mendez Colombia

A decade of work and collaboration helped bring this Colombian washed coffee to life. Before this project, Ferney’s coffee was often grouped into the broader Fair Trade Organic ASOPAP lots—an important outlet for remote producers. But early visits revealed huge quality potential: extreme altitudes, strong soil management, excellent varietals, and well-run washing stations. With years of planning and logistics, ASOPAP adopted lot separation to highlight top-performing farms and ensure they’re paid accordingly. Ferney Mendez quickly became one of the stars of the program.

This past year, Ferney’s life was tragically and suddenly taken in a fatal incident, and the investigation is still ongoing. We hope this coffee helps keep his memory present in your mind and heart. We’re grateful that his wife and son plan to carry forward the family legacy of this exceptional farm.
