La Nueva Montana Honey Guatemala

Producer: Antonio Gonzales
Farm: La Nueva Montana
Variety: Catuai

In March 2024, we finally visited La Nueva Montaña. For years, this coffee has been just out of reach, as we didn’t yet have the need for a new supply chain. However, the coffee always cups exceptionally well, so we decided to explore a potential partnership.

We were delighted to connect with Antonio Gonzales, a warm and generous grower who has built a positive cycle with his coffee production. Previously, he was selling coffee cherries at or below the cost of production, but through his work with Primavera, he now earns significant premiums for his high-quality natural and honey-processed beans. This success allowed him and his family to take a well-deserved vacation to Italy after the harvest.

While La Nueva Montaña’s naturals have always been excellent, we were particularly intrigued by their small hand-pulper. They reserve a tiny portion of their harvest for anaerobic, hand-pulped honey processing. During our visit, we gravitated toward these rare, handcrafted coffees that are often reserved for growers and long-term partners. We feel fortunate to have secured this truly artisanal honey-processed coffee from our new relationship.

Tasting Notes: Peach, White Honey, Macadam
